Unit 8 Most Beneficial

The two most beneficial exercises that I found for myself in this class were the loving-kindness, the first one, and the human flourishing, the last one. These two were the ones that I was the most able to completely involve myself in and let the rest of the world go. They were the two that brought me the most joy, peace, calmness and relaxation. I truly enjoyed how I felt while practicing them and their experiences stuck with me for hours, which was longer then the others. Once the exercise was over with the others that were practiced, the effects were gone or they were not easy for me to completely release myself in. I can implement these practices at work while sitting at my desk. I may not be able to get a complete 30 minutes in, but many times I could sit for five or ten minutes, especially after a meeting. I would really like to start incorporating these practices into my morning routine. I think that is when they would be the most beneficial. It would help immensely to get my day started in a positive way, which I could use.

  1. Julie,
I like the loving kindness way of life, we get frustrated sometimes andI think we need to be reminded some situations are temporary and will get better. I also like to practice random acts of kindness. I think all good deeds will be rewarded no matter how small or how simple, even if it's just holding the door open for someone. I agree that starting off in the morning will hopefully set the mood fofr the day. Good post.

  2. Julie,
I think you make a great point when you say that you may not have a full 30 minutes but even just 5 or 10 can make a difference in helping us to use these exercises to continue to remind us to try to stay in balance. I am so glad that you had such positive results with the exercises, it has been great seeing everyone grow in this knowledge over the last several weeks. Great job.

  3. Julie,
I have always wanted to practice in the morning too. I feel the same in that it would be a great start to ones day but I can never seem to get out of bed early enough, I am so rushed every morning! I have tried laying in bed and practicing but I end up falling back asleep... I think I will just stick to before bed (: Great post!

  4. Hey Julie:
I agree with you. The Loving Kindness practice is great. If you make this a part of your daily life, you will have a hard time being able to hate or envy or wish bad thoughts on others. Sometimes it seems we walk a crooked path in this world that it’s just good to know that we have the peace of meditation and Loving Kindness to sustain us. The human flourishing is also very good because you can’t really be angry at anyone when you’re remember a time that cause great happiness in your spirit.
